Frequently asked questions.

How should you prepare for your wax?

Exfoliating 2-3 times the week leading up to your appointment and taking an ibuprofen an hour before will surely prepare your skin and help with any discomfort. Make sure you are drinking lots of water so you come in well-hydrated. Also, caffeine can make skin more sensitive so it’s best to wait to have your coffee until after your wax. If you are on your cycle or about to be on your cycle you may be more sensitive to the discomfort.

What medications should I avoid if I’m about to get waxed?

The following medications increase the rate at which your skin exfoliates, so waxing could potentially lift skin resulting in scabs in the coming days. There is nothing scarier to us so please, please let us know if you are using/start using any of these medications! Avoid ALL waxing while on Accutane and for a minimum of 6 months after coming off the medication or consult your dermatologist about when to proceed.

  • Adapalene

  • Alpha Hydroxy Acids

  • Alustra

Can you get waxed while you have your period?

Absolutely. It is totally normal in the professional waxing industry so don’t be shy. I’ve seen it all! Just be aware that you may be more sensitive during that time of the month. I just ask that you wear a fresh tampon upon arriving.

Contraindications:

  • unhealed wounds

  • open wounds

  • irritated skin

  • stitches

Can this treatment be applied to other post-op surgery scars?

Yes! This treatment can be used on another post-op scarring such as those from cesarian & cosmetic surgeries at least 6 weeks post-surgery (or with a doctor’s approval).

Should you trim before you wax?

Don’t worry, be hairy. If the hair is too long, we will trim it. Remember: the longer the hair, the easier it will be for the wax to pick it up resulting in a smoother wax.

Can you get waxed if you’re pregnant?

Absolutely! You might get to a point in your pregnancy when you just can’t maneuver well enough for your personal grooming. Let us help! I will help you make yourself as comfortable as possible during your service. Some people expecting experience heightened pain sensitivity during waxing due to hormonal changes; this is normal. Consult your physician for further questions before your wax.

Can i still get a vajacial service after a wax?

Ideally, you should wait about 10 days after a bikini or Brazilian wax to receive a bikini facial. This amount of time allows the hair growth to form just beneath the skin so that any treatments received that target ingrown hairs can be most effective.

It is certainly a possibility to get a vajacial immediately post-wax, and you should always consult with your esthetician to see what they would recommend. Vajacials that target inflammation and redness are great to get right after a wax to soothe and calm the irritated skin.  However, not all types of vajacials are best suited for recently-waxed skin, such as a Salicylic bikini facial. The harsher chemical can react poorly with the sensitive skin and result in further redness and/or inflammation.
